Adidas and Snipes Release Sneakers Inspired by NYC Tattoo Culture
When tattoos meet sneakers, the result is something truly exciting! Adidas and Snipes have decided to pay tribute to New York City’s deep-rooted tattoo culture with the release of a limited-edition Adidas NYC Superstar. This new model features bold red, black, and green shades—the signature colors of traditional American tattoos that have been popular in the U.S. for decades.
How Did Tattoos Become Part of NYC’s Identity?
If you think the tattoo trend is a recent phenomenon, think again! It all started back in the 19th century, when sailors inked themselves while at sea—using just a needle, with no tattoo machines or Wi-Fi in sight. In 1870, the first official tattoo shop in Manhattan opened its doors, marking the beginning of New York City’s status as a global tattoo hub.
How Does This History Reflect in the Sneakers?
When designing the Adidas NYC Superstar, the creative team drew inspiration from the city’s tattoo heritage. As a result, the sneakers feature:
✅ A bold color palette inspired by classic old-school tattoos
✅ Engraved wave patterns reminiscent of the Hudson River
✅ Big Apple symbols on the tongue and heel
Now, you can walk the streets of NYC in style while literally wearing a piece of its tattoo history.
But That’s Not All! Adidas and Snipes Are Supporting Tattoo Artists
This collaboration is more than just a marketing stunt—it’s a real investment in tattoo culture. As part of the project, Adidas and Snipes teamed up with NYC’s Memorial Brooklyn Tattoo to help young tattoo artists kickstart their careers.
Participants from East Coast Social Club had the chance to meet experienced tattoo artists, receive insider industry tips, and even take home a special SNIPES x Adidas art kit to keep honing their skills.
When and Where to Buy?
Adidas NYC Superstar will be released as a limited edition and will be available online and in select Snipes stores for $110.
So, if you’ve got tattoos but no cool sneakers (or vice versa), now’s the perfect time to fix that!
